Cedar Pedestal Sideboard C.1858 Original

Offered for sale by “Expression of Interest” is an early Australian sideboard of substantial proportions.
It was made in Windsor NSW. The number “1858” is painted verso & after considerable research it is considered to be the date of manufacture.

Carving is strictly ocean influenced rococo & mouldings are ogee based. The construction is cedar & no secondary timbers are employed. Each board is stategically selected. The doors are panelled in well figured flame cedar. Three frieze dawers, ogee in section, are fitted beneath the servery board. The left pedestal is fitted with drawers & the right pedestal is, as traditional of the era, fitted with a cellar drawer. All boards, including the servery board, are single slabs. This sideboard has no damage, rot, borer activity or modification. There are no splits, cracks or separation to any panel. Both brass locks are original & operate perfectly. One original key & one earlier replaced key are included. Both brass escutcheons are intact. Brass hinges are original & operate without flaw.

The finish is original & it displays a good, conservative patination. The backboards show the original raw cedar finish. Dimensions are – 8 feet in length, 5 feet 6″ in height & 2 feet 4 ” in depth. Servery height is 3 feet 2″.
